About Us

J.W. Smyth Family Butchers has its origins in Fairview North Dublin. Since the 1930’s when James Smyth opened a shop on Dublin’s North Strand. When Dublin started to expand into the farming lands of Raheny and Killester James bought the Raheny shop in 1955 and followed the customer base out of Fairview and onto the Howth Road in Raheny where the shop still trades today.

Willie Smyth took the reins of the business in the booming seventies to four shops. Adding a shop in Donaghmede Shopping Centre, Blanchardstown Shopping Centre, and the shop which still trades today, in Portmarnock Village.

Many changes have taken place over the last half of the century in retail butchering – Expanded trading hours, ready to cook meals in store, self service counters, fresh fruit and veg and fish in store.

To facilitate the store expansion we have invested in both our Raheny and Portmarnock butcher shops and developed production areas in both stores.

These areas allow us to maintain the high emphasis we put on preparing all of your favourite cuts of meat from full carcasses which we mature ourselves ensuring we maintain the quality our customers have come to expect from Smyth’s Family Butchers.

While increasing the size of our Ground floor retail areas to provide customers with a wider choice of traditional cuts of fresh meat and many meal ideas to help the busy family eat healthy meals prepared with fresh Irish ingredients with the emphasis on quality and value.

We are now a third generation trading company as the business is now operated by Brendan Smyth in Raheny and by Brendan’s cousin John Fahy in Portmarnock  so together with our helpful  staff we strive to make your experience shopping with us a pleasant one.

‘You are what you eat’

At Smyth’s Family Butchers we realise that in today’s busy life it’s easy to take short cuts and compromise a healthy meal for one which is quick to reach the table.
